Gibbs Denley Financial Planning is part of the Gibbs Denley Group. With a rich history involving many successful acquisitions, the Group oversees three companies within our family: Financial Planning, Investment Management and Pension Trustees.

Our History

Gibbs Denley is established

Mark Denley and Derek Gibbs founded what would eventually become the Gibbs Denley Group in 1990.

Today, Mark is the Chairman of the Gibbs Denley Group and its associated companies, having led the business for more than 30 years.

Bury St Edmunds office opens

The purchase and incorporation of the Ling Cook Group in 2006 allowed us to establish our presence in Bury St Edmunds, which remains one of our key office locations today.

Investment Model Portfolios initiated

We launched our successful investment model portfolios in 2009, starting with five Whole of Market.

This enabled us to bring investment management in-house, lowering costs for clients and providing us with greater control.

Chelmsford office opens

Following the purchase of Essex-based Elliot Financial Management, we opened our Chelmsford office.

We were also proud to become Chartered Financial Planners in 2015 – a designation held by only a limited number of firms in the UK.

Launched GDIM to IFAs

We opened up our Investment Model Portfolios to Independent Financial Advisers in 2018, providing them with a smart and cost-effective investment solution for their clients.

Reached £500 million assets under management

We reached the milestone of £500 million assets under management. Since then we have exceeded more targets and are aiming to achieve an incredible £1 billion assets under management.

In 2019 we also purchased a Grade 2 listed building as a permanent home for our Chelmsford office and moved in.

Simon Rees appointed Managing Director

Simon Rees became Managing Director, with Mark Denley moving to Chairman of the Board.

In 2021 we also made a permanent home in the heart of Bury St Edmunds and moved our office to 55 Abbeygate Street.

Two new female directors appointed

In 2022, two new female directors were appointed to our board, Siobhan Cordery and Lee Armstrong.
