Meet the Team: Simon Rees, Chartered Financial Planner & Director

Simon Rees, Chartered Financial Planner and Associate DirectorSimon Rees came to work in the financial services industry after completing a degree in Economics – joining a financial planning firm was a natural progression given his interest in the economy and financial markets. As a graduate he worked in an analytical/economist role but decided to make the move back to his home county of Suffolk, where his wife was doing Teacher Training.

In 2011 he joined Gibbs Denley, beginning his financial planning career at the Cambridge office, before moving to the Bury St Edmunds office in 2012 to head up the financial planning team there. Our Bury St Edmunds team look after over £115million for a range of personal, corporate and Trust clients. Recently he has also begun taking on some clients in our newly acquired Chelmsford office. In 2017 Simon was made a Director of Gibbs Denley Financial Services.

Simon is a Chartered Financial Planner, as well as holding a qualification for Discretionary Investment Management. In addition to providing general financial advice to clients, he specialises in the complex areas of pension planning, investment management, and tax planning. IN 2016 he was named as one of New Model Adviser Magazine’s Rising Stars: The 35 Top Young Advisers of 2016.

For the most part, his clients are those of High Net Worth, who have complex financial affairs. His main role is to provide long term personal advice and financial planning of the highest quality, and to be a trusted financial adviser to the entire family.

“My aim is to provide the highest quality advice and service levels to all clients in order to achieve their long term financial goals,” says Simon. “Having the Chartered Financial Planner status shows a commitment to maintaining the highest technical levels and ethical standards. It is a privilege to become the trusted financial adviser for any individual or family, and something that I do not take lightly.”

Simon lives in the Suffolk countryside with his wife, who is a teacher in the area. They are expecting their first child at the end of March. He has played cricket for Bury St Edmunds and Suffolk for many years, although stopped recently to enjoy more weekends with his wife and growing family.
