Breast Cancer Awareness Month – October 2022
October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, raising money for breast cancer research and providing education about prevention, screening, and treatment. It’s something close to the hearts of our team, so read on to find out how we took part in raising awareness and supporting some brilliant charities this month.
Sally Keys ran The Royal Parks Half Marathon
On Sunday 9th October, Sally ran the Royal Parks Half Marathon in support of her best friend, who was diagnosed with breast cancer six months ago and continues to undergo treatment. She raised an amazing £1,060 for Breast Cancer Now.
Bra Collection for Against Breast Cancer
Throughout the month we collected 104 bras to donate to a bra bank for the charity Against Breast Cancer, which funds pioneering research into new treatments, tools for earlier diagnosis and advice to reduce the risk of recurrence and secondary spread. Read more about how second-hand bras help them on their website: https://www.againstbreastcancer.org.uk/recycling/bra-recycling
Wear it Pink Day and Pink Pumpkin competition
We also held a Wear it Pink Day where we encouraged our people to wear pink clothes and gave Halloween a twist with a competition in which we asked them to decorate a pumpkin pink: all staff voted for their favourite pumpkin and donated money. We raised a total of £73 and all proceeds from both events went to Breast Cancer Now the UK’s first comprehensive breast cancer charity providing support for everyone affected by secondary breast cancer.
Well done to the team for all their efforts to raise awareness and money!
